How long do I wait after taking Lorazepam before I start drinking alcohol?
Airline TicketsBonny asked:
My flight leaves out at 6am and my doc prescribed me this drug to help with anxiety. I’ll be getting to Vegas around 9ish. Of course, we’ll sleep til about noonish. Looking to start having cocktails around fiveish. Is this enough time? Should I wait longer?

Girlfriend, please call your doctor and don’t accept any answers from people on here….honestly!!! It’s your health that is involved. Call your doc! Have fun in Vegas!

Give up the booze, it is not doing anything for you but can certainly cause problems for you.

Depends on the dosage the doctor gave you and how often you should take it. If it says take it every 4-6 hours I would wait at least 6 hours before drinking so its out of your system. They dont want you to drink alcohol while on it because it increases alcohol’s effects. Its not really dangerous unless you have liver problems or something but I wouldnt take any advice on here, I would call your doctor up and ask his advice.

Hi there! I used to take Lorazepam, now I am taking diazepam (same category). I don’t drink, except on special occasions. I was taking Lorazepam when I had a drink, when we went to a wedding later one day. I had taken it in the orning. I remember, it made me tired. I only had one drink, to toast.
Now, the effects can last several hours, even if they do prescribe it for people like me who have severe anxiety. I did check with my pharmacy to make sure (just now), I told them I was taking that (Lorazepam, even though it is diazepam) and told them I would be going out for an anniversary and may have a drink. I asked them if I took it in the morning & that evening had a drink if it would be okay. They said it would just make me Extra tired and not to over do it (the drinking). If you have to drink, I would not do but one small drink and not fast. Actually, why don’t you just wait until the next day and don’t take any that next day. You never know how you will react to it (could make you sick, who knows). You can call your pharmacy, too. Anyway, I just wanted to help you out, so that is why I called my pharmacist. Oh, and if you take the lorazepam, you really don’t need to drink, it will calm you down & you may not feel like drinking… have a cola. Don’t drink, just because others are. It is up to you, though. You don’t want to put your health at risk. Check with the pharmacy.
